Commons for Justice Digital Archive
The FIU Commons for Justice project identifies, illustrates, and addresses racial and ethnic inequities in pre-event disaster exposures and vulnerabilities, as well as in post-event resilience in South Florida. The project provides an open, safe, and supportive space to exchange findings, perspectives, and solutions, along with resources for research and teaching shared with vulnerable neighborhoods and the broader community.
While the project focuses on historically marginalized and disenfranchised communities along the region’s north–south “spine of distress,” it also works with Caribbean Basin communities and the Global Indigenous Forum to promote respect and support for Indigenous populations and minorities worldwide.
This collection of oral histories and recordings of community events was created through activities spanning 2021–2025, with support from the Mellon Foundation’s Just Futures Initiative.
